Agent Says Semyon Der-Arguchintsev Could Return To Maple Leafs

Russian forward Semyon Der-Arguchintsev could return to the Toronto Maple Leafs system next season. The player’s agent, Shumi Babaev, told R.org that Der-Arguchintsev is considering continuing his career in Toronto.

“Semyon is considering the option of returning to Toronto. We contacted former general manager Brad Treliving and expressed our desire to return to the club’s system. Now we are waiting for the appointment of a new general manager and to understand his position,” Babaev said.

The 25-year-old Der-Arguchintsev played in the Toronto system from 2021 to 2023. He was selected in the third round of the 2018 NHL Draft with the No. 76 pick. In the AHL, the forward played 107 games for the Toronto Marlies and recorded 76 points (25 goals, 51 assists). He also has one NHL game and one goal to his name.

Der-Arguchintsev’s contract with Moscow Dynamo expires on May 31, 2026.

“There have been no concrete negotiations with Dynamo yet. The club has not contacted us about an extension. At the end of the season, we spoke with general manager Maxim Sushko but decided to postpone the discussion until after the season,” Babaev added.

In the 2025-26 KHL regular season, Der-Arguchintsev played 59 games for Traktor and Dynamo, recording 36 points (six goals, 30 assists). In the playoffs, he had two assists in four games.

According to Babaev, the player has a chance to establish himself in Toronto’s lineup.

“I believe Semyon is ready for the NHL. Of course, he has to be ready for the possibility of playing in the AHL, but there is no point in going there just for that. We are talking about a one-way contract with a salary closer to the league minimum,” Babaev said.
