Aryna Sabalenka Defends Her US Open Title with Victory Over Anisimova
Aryna Sabalenka successfully defended her US Open title, defeating Amanda Anisimova 6-3, 7-6(3) in the women’s singles final at Flushing Meadows. With this victory, Sabalenka secured her fourth career Grand Slam trophy and became the first woman since Serena Williams in 2014 to win consecutive US Open titles.

Sabalenka, currently the World No. 1 in the PIF WTA Rankings, capped a remarkable season with her first major of the year. She has now claimed two titles each at the US Open and Australian Open, matching the achievements of players like Naomi Osaka but in an even shorter span.

The match saw Sabalenka manage the pressure with consistent play, converting five of six break points and keeping her unforced errors to 15, compared to Anisimova’s 29. Anisimova, who entered the final with a 6-3 head-to-head advantage over Sabalenka, struggled to maintain control against Sabalenka’s tactical adjustments and defensive skills.

This final marked Sabalenka’s 100th Grand Slam match win, giving her a .794 winning percentage at majors—second only to Iga Swiatek among active players. Over the past three years, Sabalenka has reached four finals, three semifinals, and one quarterfinal in the 11 majors she contested.

After the match, Anisimova praised Sabalenka and her team, acknowledging the difficulty of the journey and her own progress to a career-high No. 4 in the new rankings. Sabalenka, reflecting on her season, said, “All those tough lessons were worth this one.”
